It isn’t that there aren’t things to do, there are. There are plenty of things to do today, but there are plenty of reasons not to do them. But it isn’t procrastination. It’s like a cloud hangs over them trying to find other reasons to not do the things that have to be done today and the reasons lead to doing relatively nothing in exchange. The cloud that sits drives through chaotic energy the things that have to be done today into things that should be done tomorrow.
To call it a muse is a mistake. Though it is like a muse, the cloud that drives things into tomorrow, in that it exerts a force of will against things and drives actions, it is not a muse in that it is not a positive force saying “do this” but rather “don’t do that”. So it isn’t that there aren’t things to do today, it’s that tomorrow is a better day to do the things that are supposed to be done today.
Some would call it procrastination, but that is not it either. Procrastination is a muse that works its magic by saying that there are other better things to do today like watching TV and forgetting about all the things that are supposed to be done today. It looks at 30 Rock as an acceptable alternative to making phone calls and the mind diverts and accepts and so it goes into doing the things to be done today into maybe being done tomorrow.
Instead, it is a cloud that hangs over everything and says that nothing should be done today because of no other reason than that the things today shouldn’t be done. It connects with the things to be done through chaos. A wild energy is attached and aversion is produced. “Don’t do it” is the cry of the energy, the fickle and warped cloud’s face. But it is not done there. It is not satisfied with prolonging the things that are to be done today and converting them into things that are to be done tomorrow. For tomorrow it will come back with greater force and push those things into a day further yet. And in short work it becomes existential. The things that are to be done today are no longer things to be put off but things that if one would choose to even approach doing so would find themselves paralyzed with fear about going another step further. It is as though the world would crumble if another step was taken in doing the things that needed to be done today.
So the things that needed to be done today are now things that are needed to be done tomorrow. The day would seem to be open and at rest for other things that didn’t need to be done today, but that would be a mistake. Instead a vacuum is created and the void that now exists where the things that needed to be done today rested and into that void things that do not need to be done ever fill it. Errant winds wrap the mind up and lethargy makes an appearance on the stage. Things that never need to be done are the only things that are done.
So to the things that need to be done today, I hope and pray that I will do those things or else I will face the things that never need to be done and then the things that have to be done tomorrow.
